10 More Ways To Improve Your Bridge
Master Bridge Series
by David Bird

Building on the previous 'Ten Ways' title, this book presents ten further ways to increase success at the bridge table. In the area of bidding, the Jacoby 2NT convention is described - the most popular way nowadays of showing a strong major-suit raise and investigating slam possibilities. When bidding slams, it is critical to identify the presence or otherwise of the six key cards (the four aces and the king-queen of trumps). Roman Key-card Blackwood allows you to do this. Two important variations (Kickback Blackwood and Exclusion Blackwood) are explained. The Lebensohl convention is covered also, both when partner's 1NT has been overcalled and when you are responding to a double of a weak-two bid. On defence, the important topic of disrupting declarer's communications is explained. The book will also show how you can become an 'awkward defender', the sort of player that no declarer likes to face. Finally, five important areas of declarer play are addressed: holding up in a suit contract, using the entries provided by the trump suit, how to block the defenders' suit at no-trumps, the various ways to avoid an adverse ruff or overruff and how to overcome a 4-1 trump break.

Even social players are usually keen to add a few choice gadgets to their bidding arsenal. 25 Bridge Myths Exposed
by David Bird

Do you remember the first few times you played bridge? To get you started, a friend probably gave you a few helpful hints -- perhaps one of the ones listed to the left. There are many such general guidelines for bridge players -- some of them valuable, some not. But these are the Bridge Myths, not the Bridge Rules -- because they all have exceptions and none should be followed blindly. In reading this book you will get to see what it is about each guideline that makes it so useful; more importantly, you will also learn to recognize the times when you should ignore it.

25 Ways to Be a Better Defender
by Barbara Seagram & David Bird

Defense is the hardest part of playing bridge, but that doesn't mean that it's impossible to learn. In the final book of the bestselling '25' series, the authors explain how to make a plan as a defender: how to work out from the auction and play what declarer probably has, and which of the strategies available to defenders is likely to be successful. Opening leads, signaling and discarding are all covered in this basic guide to a vitally important topic.

365 Winning Bridge Tips
by Danny Kleinman

Can you learn from the errors of others? Here is a collection of problems, mostly very simple ones, that gave a variety of players, mostly "intermediate" but including occasional beginners and experts, some trouble. You won't find bidding problems worthy of the Master Solvers' Club (a monthly Bridge World feature), declarer-play problems fit for "Test Your Play" (another Bridge World feature) or problems to challenge defensive maven Eddie Kantar. Instead you will find the kinds of "bread and butter" problems that arise several times a session each time you trudge to your local duplicate bridge club or travel to a sectional or regional tournament. An invaluable collection of advice for the improving player, covering all aspects of the game.

A First Book Of Bridge Problems
by Patrick O'Connor

Comprises fifty problems in declarer play and defense for the beginning player, presented in approximate order of difficulty, with emphasis on planning the play at the first trick. The hands are presented to the reader as they would encounter them playing at the table. Unlike in a textbook, where topics are introduced systematically, there is no clue as to what type of play is required. Experienced players recognize certain standard situations without having to work them out. This does not apply to novices, who spend a lot of mental effort on them. The book will help the novice player to develop their recognition of these situations.

Breaking The Bridge Rules
First Hand Play
by Barry Rigal

Rules are made to be broken, and bridge is no exception. The first of a planned four-book series on cardplay, this book deals with situations where the player who is on lead - defender or declarer, at the start of the deal or in the middle - needs to do something that involves ostensibly 'breaking the rules'. Not, obviously, the rules of bridge itself, but the well-tried adages that every player is taught - the rules of thumb that work in a lot of cases. Knowing when to break those rules is one of the marks of an expert player.

by Peter Winkler

Robert Tischman is just looking for a game of bridge, but when a mysterious woman persuades him to partner her in a two-session event at the Engima Club, he gets much more than that. This is a book that can be enjoyed on several levels: 1) as a fun read with lots of great bridge deals; 2) as a glimpse of what the game might be like if technology were applied to it with more imagination; 3) as an exposition of the author's ideas on encrypted bidding and encrypted signals - bids and plays where, in full compliance with the Laws of Bridge, partners can exchange information that cannot be deciphered by their opponents. Consumer warning: these methods, though fascinating and ingenious, are illegal in many bridge jurisdictions.

Bridge Books In English 1886-2010
An Annotated Bibliography
by Tim Bourke and John Sugden

Interest in Bridge book collecting has steadily increased over the last decade or more, and relatively common older books, which the editors could formerly find several times a week on the shelves of secondhand bookshops, are now rarely seen. The switch to internet trading has been only partially responsible, but has had a number of unfortunate consequences, besides the excessive inflation of asking prices for many works. Chief amongst these is the inability to handle a book before buying. Even for sellers of the best repute, describing books for sale is a tedious business, and many resort to formularised descriptions of condition backed by their reputations. Collectors need to know what questions to ask, before bidding or purchase, and seeing an image of the item may not be enough. While the possibility of return for refund offers partial protection, it does not cover the increasingly significant postage or shipping costs. This work provides the information. In 1905 and again in 1913 Jessel published works on Card Games and Gaming, which partially concerned Bridge. They are a valuable source, but were not comprehensive nor totally accurate. Fast forward to 1975, and Parris produced a limited bibliography covering 553 works, published in the British Isles 1920-1969. For lack of precedent, a remarkable effort. He was followed in 1984 by Sachen in America with a Reference Guide including 605 books. Both these were annotated. And there the options end. Apart from the increasingly extensive lists of titles including in the ACBL's Encyclopedias, which are prepared by one of the editors of the present work, there has until now been no comprehensive source detailing what exists.

Bridge Master vs. Bridge Amateur
by Mark Horton

What makes a bridge expert, and why does he always come out on top compared to the average club player? No, it's not the ability to execute esoteric squeezes and endplays - they simply don't come up enough to account for the way the experts consistently win against weaker opposition. This book is a collection of deals that illustrate the difference between the expert player and the would-be expert. These are decisions that will come up in every club game, situations in bidding, play and defense where the amateur will often go wrong, but the expert never will. A study of the concepts in this book will take the reader a long way from amateur status towards actually becoming an expert player.

Canada's Bridge Warriors
by Roy Hughes

For more than 30 years, Toronto's Eric Murray and Sami Kehela could claim to be one of the best bridge pairs in the world. Indeed, at times they were probably the best pair in the world. In this book, for the first time, the full story of their bridge partnership is told - the story of a Canadian pair who overcame the odds to dominate North American bridge, but always to have the ultimate prize, a world championship, denied them by the invincible Italian Blue Team. This is a journey back to a different era in bridge, to the International Pairs trials of the 1960s, the legendary battles against the Italians, and the thrill of bringing Canada some of its most impressive results in world competition. Few bridge partnerships in history have lasted as long as this one, and even fewer can point to such a consistent record of success on the world stage. "You never beat Murray and Kehela: you were just temporarily ahead of them," --Bob Hamman, many-times world champion.

Clever Plays In The Trump Suit
by David Bird

An intermediate-level discussion of declarer play, this book focuses on the power of the trump suit. Its subjects include trump timing--should you draw all the defenders' trumps straight away, some of their trumps, or perhaps perform some other vital task first? -- and situations where you need to unblock in the trump suit or to put a defender on lead with a trump. The reader will learn how to make maximum use of the entries provided by the trump suit, and how to perform a trump safety play or a trump avoidance play. Two other important topics are how to make your contract against a bad trump break and how you can survive a forcing attack on the long-trump holding. Later chapters explain how to play contracts with fewer than eight trumps at your disposal, and also how to conjure extra tricks from the trump suit. Every couple of chapters or so, there is a 9-problem quiz section.

Clues from the Bidding
by Julian Pottage

Defenders invariably base their strategy on declarer's bidding. Yet so often declarers fail to return the compliment: they flail away without a thought of what the defenders have or have not done. Just one bid from an opponent may tip off declarer to the winning play - perhaps warning of a bad break or that a finesse is doomed. When the defenders have made several bids the declarer may be able to make spectacular double-dummy plays. The problems in this book all contains situations where an astute declarer can listen to the bidding, or lack of it, and derive information critical to the success of his contract. This book was originally published in 1990, and in this new edition is substantially revised and expanded.

Deadly Endplay
A Pemberton Bridge Club Mystery
by Ken Allan

If Miss Marple's village had boasted a bridge club, it might have been very like the one in Pemberton, the North Ontario setting for this Canadian mystery novel. The story evokes the slow pace of life in a small rural town, and whether there even was a murder is part of the mystery. The game of bridge is closely interwoven with the lives of the people in Pemberton -- we meet the characters partly through bridge columns from the local paper, and in many cases, get to see how their personae at the bridge table differ from those in their everyday lives. The 'deadly endplay' of the title relates to a deal that comes up in a club game, and also refers to how the murder -- if it was a murder -- was committed.

Most of the chapters are followed by a quiz, the answers to which will demonstrate the effectiveness of the recommended signal. The book finishes with a chapter that looks at the signalling methods of eight world-class pairs, with examples of their methods in action. Fall of the Cards
by Donald Parson

Problems of the type for which the author is infamous are limited in number, for they demand a combination of qualities not often found together. They should be problems rather than puzzles, instructive rather than baffling, presenting situations that arise in everyday play. They should be short and snappy, and answerable by a concise statement, preferably early in the game; for if delayed too long, variations in defense may lead to complications that destroy the problem. Above all, they should offer two schemes of play, one that may be plausible at first sight, and another that a deeper analysis proves to be the correct procedure. And if there is a big swing between the results of good technique and bad technique, so much the better, for there is nothing like punishment to emphasize a lesson for man and beast.

Opening one notrump can avoid a difficult rebid problem or preempt an opponent out of a one-spade overcall. However, the opening side then faces the challenging problem of how to locate five-three (as well as four-four) major-suit fits. Focus on Bidding
by Danny Roth

This is not a book about systems, nor is it a book about conventions (although I confess I shall attempt to persuade you to adopt one or two in the course of it). This is a book about bidding and the places in the auction that we (and I use the word advisedly) go wrong. I don't care whether you prefer to play a weak or a strong notrump, or eight-card majors, or the Purple Spotted Forcing Club. But I do care about how you decide when to bypass a major to bid one notrump, or what constitutes a decent opening bid, and why, and what sequences you regard as forcing. You see what I mean about 'bidding' as opposed to 'system'? - Danny Roth

Focus on Declarer Play
by Danny Roth

For most intermediate bridge players, declarer play is both fascinating and challenging, but too often they are left after a hand is over with the sinking feeling that they could have done better. In this book, acclaimed British author Danny Roth takes his readers through the most common causes of errors on play: mishandling communications, making errors involving trumps, failing to take advantage of all possible chances, and many more. He explains how to recognize the danger signals, and how to avoid the pitfalls. The situations he describes are encountered every day; careful study of the examples in this book will make the reader a better card player, and improved scores will certainly follow.

Getting Into The Bidding
by Bill Treble

In the modern game, the majority of auctions are competitive, and every improving player needs to acquire the tools to handle this kind of bidding. This text covers the basic building blocks of competitive bidding (takeout and negative doubles, preempts, overcalls, competing over their notrump openings and dealing with competition over your own, forcing pass auctions, the Law of Total Tricks, and others). It describes a number of useful conventions and gadgets with which the reader needs to be familiar, and suggests other optional treatments for partnership discussion. Each chapter ends with reviews and quizzes, and the final chapter is a summary quiz covering all the material. Improve Your Declarer Play at No-Trumps
by Ron Klinger

Ron Klinger brings his huge knowledge and skills as a leading teacher to bear on the difficult situations declarer faces when playing in no-trumps. Many players feel trepidation when faced with playing a notrumps contract. This invaluable bridge guide to better declarer play teaches players how to approach such contracts without fear. The correct lines and logical thinking are explained clearly and you will not only make your contracts, but also score overtricks as well. The first section covers the approach you should adopt before you even play a card from dummy; followed by practical examples, problems to solve, and deals that arose in major competitions where the very best players did not always find the right answer. Most importantly, the solutions include the logic behind the right play, the clues to locate the missing cards, and ideas on how to induce opposition error when you have no legitimate chance for success. Where you might have felt reluctance when playing no trumps, you will emerge from this handbook with a new sense of confidence.

Perhaps more points are won and lost on the opening lead than at any other time in a bridge hand. In this book, a top player and writer takes the reader through the questions that need to be asked before selecting an opening lead: whether to be active or passive, whether to lead partner's suit or your own, whether to lead trumps or not, whether to try a deceptive lead, and so on. These and many other issues are covered in an approachable book aimed at the player who wants to improve a key aspect of his game.

Misplay These Hands With Me
by Mark Horton

The late Terence Reese, perhaps the greatest bridge writer of all time, introduce the 'over-the-shoulder' style of bridge writing in his classic Play These Hands with Me. In this wry homage to the master, Horton leads the reader through a plausibly logical line of play on each instructive deal, but one that ends in failure. In each post-mortem, the 'expert' realizes how he could have improved on his play, and (usually) have made his contract. The deals are all from top-class events, which prove to be a remarkably fertile source of such material. A book filled with subtle humor and great bridge. A tounge-in-cheek homage to Reese's classic, only this time declarer always finds in the post-mortem that there was a better line of play. Entertaining and instructional.

My System: The Unbalanced Diamond
by Marshall Miles

Marshall Miles has been writing bridge books for more than fifty years, and during that time has remained one of the world's leading thinkers on the theory of bidding. His recent gold medal in the World Senior Teams shows that he has lost little of his edge with time. This book, a distillation of the ideas he has been developing and evolving over many years, describes what in his view is an optimal bidding system: the one he prefers to play, and the one that has brought him great success over the last several years. Serious players will want to study Miles' ideas, and adopt, if not the whole system, many of its concepts into their own bidding.

One Trick At A Time
by Jim Jackson

This is not a book for players who win regularly at their local bridge club--it is for those who don't, but would like to. The author does not claim to be a top-level expert, and admits that he made many mistakes on his way to earning the coveted title of Life Master. This book is intended to help others avoid those same mistakes and to learn from those that they do make. Written in a conversational, non-technical style, this is a book that will help any intermediate player become a better bidder, a better declarer, a better defender, and a better partner--the recipe for becoming a winner.

Pathways to Better Bridge Defense
by Danny Roth

Become a better defender! So you tend to get dealt very bad hands. I know exactly how you feel! But, facing the facts of life and recognizing that it is not your fault, you are going to have to accommodate this failing and improve your defense. It's a hard part of the game; even in international competitions, the standard of defensive play is, to put it kindly, modest. Yes, you will get plenty of reports of brilliancies involving spectacular switches, deceptions, unblocks and discards of honors. But for every one of those, there are countless others in which the display would disgrace any beginners' class. I am going to assume that you are a regular club or tournament player who knows the basics of defense but who comes unstuck when it comes to situations where you have to work the hand out in detail. This book will help you to improve dramatically in this area.

Planning The Play Of A Bridge Hand
by Barbara Seagram & David Bird

Beginning bridge players are taught some of the basic techniques of declarer play: suit establishment, ruffing losers, the finesse, and so forth. The hard part is learning when each applies. There is that terrible moment when the dummy comes down, and the novice declarer has no idea even how to start thinking about the right things. This book, starting from the basics, explains how to make a plan as declarer. The reader learns how to recognize which technique to apply on a given deal, both in notrump contracts and suit contracts. By the end of the book readers will be comfortable with slightly more advanced material, such as entry management and elementary counting.

Richelieu Plays Bridge
by Robert F. MacKinnon

The author of last year's cult bridge classic, Samurai Bridge, returns with another bridge novel, this time set in 17th century France. Through the medium of fictional bridge games, we see the politics and intrigue of the French court play out, and follow Cardinal Richelieu's career as he becomes the queen's confidant and the real power behind the throne. Again in MacKinnon's second novel, the bridge is deftly woven into the everyday life of the culture we are observing, so that it seems to take its natural place in the development of character and events. Nobles rise and fall in court favour, fortunes are made and lost, and life and death affairs are planned and executed, all between the bids and plays of the most deadly and mannered bridge games imaginable.

Samurai Bridge: A Tale of Old Japan
by Robert F. MacKinnon

Undoubtedly the most unusual piece of bridge fiction ever published, Samurai Bridge takes the reader to a remote village in early 19th century Japan. At first, the characters may seem familiar - the heroic masterless samurai (a ronin), the evil town magistrate, the downtrodden peasants, the tea-house madam with a heart of gold, and so forth. But soon we realize that these people are different - they are all fanatical bridge players, and the climactic battle between the forces of good and evil will take place not in the dojo, but at the card table. There is plenty of swordplay and romance as the story moves along, interspersed with philosophical asides on the Zen of bridge and a fascinating account of bridge as played at the Imperial court. Sex, violence, mystery, and lots of bridge hands too, this is Seven Samurai as Charles Goren might have written it! The book is illustrated throughout with pen and ink drawings in the classic Japanese style.

Serendipity in Bridge
by R. Jayaram

Imagine picking up a bridge book without noticing the author's name. Could you identify the author without reading the text? Kantar? Sure! Reese? Probably. Any other? A unique voice has recently surfaced in the world of bridge. With his first book, Logic, Intuition, and Instinct at the Bridge Table, R .Jayaram (Jay) advanced the revolutionary idea that bridge is NOT exclusively a game of logic. His second book, Moments of Truth at the Bridge Table further extended that idea. Now this third book makes the case that the best results, sometimes unexpectedly, come when you utilize both halves of your brain, the creative side (right) as well of the logical side (left). Most, but not all, of the subjects of Jay's stories are prominent players from his native India. But, Bill Gates, Zia, and Eric Rodwell make appearances. Your perception of our favorite game will forever be changed.

Simple Squeezes
Second revised edition
by Anthony Moon

This is the first book in a series of eight on Bridge Squeezes and introduces the subject. It is aimed at experienced players who are ready to improve their playing ability and wish to understand more about these fascinating positions. Each position is shown as a diagram showing the cards remaining and how the position is played. There are then several examples taken from actual play, which are drawn from several sources--the author's own experience, friends, books and newspaper articles. These examples show how the basic position was reached and the preparation needed to achieve it. The key requirements for a squeeze are explained in simple terms and each type of threat encountered is described and named. The five fundamental attributes and requirements for a squeeze are developed and explained and their relevance in executing a simple squeeze is developed. There is also a chapter with basic advice on how to defend against squeezes; this complex subject is further developed in the later books in the series. This second edition describes 34 positions and includes 93 example deals. Simple squeezes are fairly common and represent approximately half of those encountered at the table.

If your answer is YES to the following three questions, this is the book for you: 1. Have you read A Bridge to Simple Squeezes? 2. Did you see merit in the structured approach introduced in that book for executing simple squeezes? 3. Do you feel that in spite of your great effort you are still not finding squeezes? In Still Not Finding Squeezes, the structured approach is applied to the 39 squeeze examples that David Bird and Tim Bourke created for their book, Test Your Bridge Technique: The Simple Squeeze. These examples will give you the experience you need to include squeezes in your arsenal.

The Devil's Tickets
A Night of Bridge, a Fatal Hand, and a New America
by Gary M. Pomerantz

Kansas City, 1929: Myrtle and Jack Bennett sit down with another couple for an evening of bridge. As the game intensifies, Myrtle complains that Jack is a 'bum bridge player.' For such insubordination, he slaps her hard in front of their stunned guests and announces he is leaving. Moments later, sobbing, with a Colt .32 pistol in hand, Myrtle fires four shots, killing her husband. The Roaring 1920s inspired nationwide fads--flagpole sitting, marathon dancing, swimming-pool endurance floating. But of all the mad games that cheered Americans between the wars, the least likely was contract bridge. Through larger-than-life characters and the timeless partnership game they played, The Devil's Tickets captures a uniquely colorful age and a tension in marriage that is eternal.

The Game of Bridge
by Terence Reese

The purpose of this book is to provide a complete and objective account of how to become acquainted with the fascinating game of bridge. Reese was not concerned simply to give rules of thumb, as were so many authors both before and after him. He was concerned with providing a basic handbook of bridge that tells players the reasons for certain lines of bidding and play. The principles of strategy, starting with the fundamentals and working up to some quite advanced points, are explained. No rules are laid down without the reasons for them being explained. Here you will find not only what to do but why you should do it. While the bidding is traditional British Acol, Reese's instruction on card play and defense remains valuable even for a modern North American reader.

The Multi Two Diamonds is a popular convention among tournament players, yet this is the first comprehensive modern book on how it fits into commonly played bidding structures. Various alternative uses for the opening major-suit two-bids, including the popular Muiderberg Twos, are discussed in depth, as well as the popular Multi Landy (Woolsey) defense against 1NT. A substantial amount of space is devoted to defenses against Multi, making this a valuable book even for those who don't wish to play the convention themselves.

This new collection will keep Silver afficionados laughing all the way through the holiday season.

The Principle of Restricted Talent
by Danny Kleinman & Nick Straguzzi

An anthology of humorous stories featuring Chthonic, the bridge-playing robot. The stories draw unmercifully funny portraits of human bridge players, as Chthonic's bridge brilliance and abrasive and ill-concealed contempt for his human creators leave them all in his wake. A particular target is the pompous Director of the Cybernetics Research Institute, whose opinion of his own bridge expertise differs greatly from that of his protege. Some of these stories have appeared in The Bridge World magazine, where the characters are established as firm reader favorites.

The Weak Notrump
How to play it, how to play against it
by Andy Stark

All North American players are taught to play using a strong notrump, but that is not the way of the rest of the world. Even in North America, weak notrump systems, or even Kamikaze notrump systems, are becoming more common. This book discusses the advantages and disadvantages of playing a system with a weaker notrump opening, and shows how the 1NT range impacts the rest of the bidding system. Even those who have no interest in converting to a weak notrump range still need to know how to play against weak notrump systems. For them, the book includes advice on effective competitive methods.

There Must Be A Way
52 Bridge Hands to Challenge your Play and Defense
by Andrew Diosy

Most bridge players pride themselves on their ability at post-mortem analysis -- figuring out what should happen on a given hand with best play and perfect defense. But sometimes it's not so easy. Andrew Diosy has collected 52 bridge hands, graded into increasing levels of difficulty, where the obvious answer is usually wrong. As you look further into each hand, you find that there are more layers of complexity, as each move by declarer or the defense has its counter-move. Which side will come out on top? Many of these hands will leave insomniac readers staring at the ceiling, desperately echoing the book's title: 'There must be a way...'.

Things Your Bridge Teacher Won't Tell You
by Dan Romm

Most bridge books ignore the fact that bridge is a game between opponents, simply teaching players how to strive for theoretical perfection in bidding and play. Dan Romm isn't interested in that - he's interested in winning, which is something he has done for more than forty years against the best players around. Romm also isn't very interested in tournaments - mostly he plays for money; he plays with and against world champions, and is a consistent winner. He treats bridge as a four-person competition, not as a one or two-person mathematical exercise. Psychology, deception, and misdirection are among a host of (legal!) tactics that the reader can learn to use himself, on the way to winning more often.

Thinking on Defense
by Jim Priebe

Defense is the most difficult part of bridge, and for most players, the hardest part of defense is figuring out what to do. In this book, the reader is shown step-by-step how to visualize declarer's cards from the bidding and play, and then how to use this information to form a plan for the defense. This book is based on Jim Priebe's popular articles 'Visualization on Defense' which appeared in the ACBL Bulletin in early 2001.

Three Notrump in Depth
by Augie Boehm

Part I of this book will equip you with a variety of useful, easy-to-master bidding tools to help you and partner discover when to grab the 3NT brass ring, and, just as important, when to avoid it. Reaching good 3NT contracts doesn't confer an automatic bonus-there is that niggling rule about needing to make what you bid. So, Part II is dedicated to the play of 3NT. Since you are apt to defend 3NT twice as often as you declare (50% versus 25%), defensive counters are given full weight.

Topics in Declarer Play
(Eddie Kantar Teaches)
by Eddie Kantar

Kantar's two-book series on Bridge Defense ( Modern Bridge Defense and Advanced Bridge Defense) won an ABTA Book of the Year Award in 1999. This new book addresses a more popular topic, using a similar approach. While not a comprehensive treatment of declarer play at bridge, this book deals with specific topics exhaustively, and will be invaluable to the improving player: finesses (when and how to take them, and equally importantly, when to avoid taking them), endplays, eliminations, issues with entries, suit establishment, and counting. Designed to be used by bridge teachers, or by students learning on their own, this book like its predecessors contains a host of features that help the student to grasp the material: clearly laid-out concepts, margin notes, practice hands, chapter-end quizzes, key-point summaries at regular intervals, and an index.

Triple Squeezes
by Anthony Moon & Tim Bourke

This is the third book in the series on bridge squeezes and covers the positions where one defender is squeezed in three suits. 108 positions are shown as diagrams showing the cards remaining and how each position is played. There are also 113 examples which are drawn from several sources--the author's own experience, friends, books, submissions, creations and newspaper articles. These examples show how the basic position was reached and the preparation needed to achieve it. The mnemonic TOWEL (threats, over, winners, entries, losers) is used to categorise and analyse each position and describe its essential characteristics. This book is in two parts; the first covers the essential triple squeezes and the second describes some positions with new types of threats which are closely related to the strip squeezes.

The software then plays these deals automatically, seeing which of the 13 possible opening leads works best at both IMPs (rubber bridge/Chicago) and matchpoint pairs. by Andrew Diosy & Linda Lee

A brilliant sequel to There Must Be A Way, this book presents fifty-two more problems in post-mortem analysis. The two-step solution approach has been retained, and the hands are no less fun. Again, the reader is challenged to decide whether each hand can be made with best play and defence. For variety, in this book some hands are presented in single dummy format as well.
